ANSWER - September 2002

Answer:

The last girl was “having a quiet night in”, so since someone immediately after Alicia “had a prior engagement”, and we know Alicia wasn't the first choice, she must have been second. It was Jeri who was “washing her hair”, which means she must have been first on the list, and hence Alicia was “off men”. Therefore Alicia was the girl I sent flowers to. Since she was in second place, and Sophie was the girl who came after the one who was unimpressed with the gypsy violinist, the violinist must have been the enticement I offered to the third girl, who must have been Sarah-Michelle (as we've established who everyone else was).

Sarah-Michelle turned down the dinner invitation, and since I have said “maybe I should have offered [Jeri] the champagne”, plainly I actually sent it to someone else - and this must be Sophie, as we've worked out the gifts that the other two received. Therefore Jeri received chocolates and an offer of a movie date. Since I have said the theatre invite wasn't my last resort, Alicia must have been offered it, and Sophie was the concert invitee.
