Tal,

You know, so much has been said about a Free Woman's position on Gor and how she fits into the way we sincere Goreans choose to live.

In a nutshell, most of us agree that a Free Woman is submissive (as opposed to submitting-I always have to add that qualifier for some) to Free Men.

That being said, I recently encountered a channel where there were no ops at the time. I entered with my slave and gave the regular salutations...."Tal men", "greetings women......free or not"......knowing quite well that there was a Free Woman visiting with whom I've had words with before. The woman did not acknowledge me until I asked in channel if it was common for male slaves to serve there. I think I said words to the effect of "[Free Man's nick deleted], are male slaves allowed here?".

At this point, the Free Woman chose to acknowledge me (very gracious of her, of course < G > by responding with a dismissive and, to my way of thinking, very insolent "of course male slaves are allowed here". I was taken aback by this because of three things. Firstly, I did not address her, secondly, I was amused by the fact that she would acknowledge an "oaf" like me (yes, that's what FW call me when I remind them of their position in our lifestyle) by speaking for a Free Man and thirdly, I was most specific in addressing a particular individual with a perfectly valid question.

Although I resisted the obvious jibe which would have referred to her apparent sexual identity crisis, some interesting discourse took place, but in the end I did something unusual and just left to allow the FW and her Dom boyfriends enjoy their own butt licking. I rarely leave an argument unfinished.

Finally, I made it back to the refuge of Silk&Steel, taking my slave and alna{SS} with me, when lo and behold, *another* FW walks into the tavern. You can imagine my preparedness for *another* debate on a Free Woman's position in Gor, right?

This FW entered the tavern, greeted all politely with appropriate respect for the Free Men, then *knelt*. She was asked by a slave if she could be of service and the FW commanded a drink, I don't even remember what it was. Aside from issues like "should a FW be drinking from a bowl?" etc., something interesting occurred as she received the slave's offering. The FW actually commanded the slave to fetch some pastries "because the Masters might enjoy such".

To be quite truthful, I don't have slaves serve me because I like paga or whatever it is that I command, I do it because I like to be served. But it struck me immediately that this woman knew her place and was keen to let it be known that she wished to earn the respect that is befitting a Free Woman of Gor.

I can remember clearly commenting to my slave that although I had only exchanged greetings with this woman that she immediately earned my respect through her actions.

I feel sincerely sorry for the woman in my first example, and others like her, who will never know how it feels to have truly *earned* the respect of a Gorean Free Man.

Something to think about.

I wish you all well

mIRC has brought us together as a community. As any community goes we have our similarities and differences. Goreans however tend to stand united more than any other community I know in our belief of honor and respect. Without the work of Khaled Mardam-Bey who created mIRC many of the goreans we call friends, Brothers, Masters, slaves would not be here. I encourage you to register your copy of mIRC as it is a small price to pay for being part of the mIRC gorean community.

mIRC is shareware, which means if you keep using it after 30 days, you should pay for it. The cost is $20.00US and is a token fee for upholding your honor and respect for the use of another's property. mIRC is the property of Mardam-Bey. It is easy to register on-line from the copy of mIRC you are using, by clicking the far right icon; 'about mIRC', then 'how to register'
