I have heard the phrase "Do what you will," many times. Usually right about then I tune out, much as I do when the word "Wrestling," appears in the conversation. And that's alright, I'm quite content to kneel quietly and reflect on my own thoughts, if not otherwise needed. All that must be Freeperson talk. Not applicable to a slave, right?
Well, perhaps. But then again, I stopped to think, what do these words mean to a Gorean in general? Not just to a Master, or a slave. Does it mean, "Do whatever the heck you want?" I don't think so- if it did I think many of us would just move to the beach and sip margaritas til the sun goes down for the next twenty years. So what does it mean?
The key here perhaps is the phrase belongs within the tenets of Gorean philosophy and not outside of it. It is then understood that one is aspiring to be what one is meant to be. A man a man, a woman a woman, each with individual qualities and characteristics inherent to the gender. Accordingly then, the phrase "Do what you will," will not mean anything close to the same results for a Master vs. a slave. So after recognizing that then, the question in my mind is, how does this apply to a girl, that is engaged in achieving the "status" of being a slave? It means she can run wild and be willful, right? Well, no, not exactly.
Ultimately, a gorean slave is a woman who has come to grasp that within herself is a vibrant woman in the purest sense of the role, and her deepest fulfillment in life will result from affording herself the freedom to subjugate. She has accepted that she is less physically capable than a man, that her place is as a helper, she is meant to serve; not only a man, but serve generally in life in whatever capacity is required, whether that be raising the children, working to help support the household, taking care of elderly parents, running errands, etc. She does of course have different needs and desires in life than a man does, but her priorities are focused outward, rather than looking in and considering herself first. (It's interesting to note how frequent, we see the latter in households; think of a mother, who continually puts her children and husband first, spends the extra money on them, works many years to provide income for children's education etc. It's common, and it's natural. ) This is merely one facet of a woman who is a slave of course, and she does receive some degree of attainment knowing those she loves are well taken care of, seeing results in her children growing up well, etc. So where is the rest? The explosive incredible feelings resulting from slavery? It is of course, a result of the relationship of a girl and her Master.
The dynamic relationship between Master and slave is on an entirely different level of servitude for a woman. The main focus is the same, to serve, to subjugate. The difference however, is in what a slave receives in return from this relationship. Top on the list of course, is the fulfillment of the ardent need a woman, who is a slave, feels to be controlled and dominated by a man. Herein lies the point; the path to this fulfillment, is in being what one is meant to be. By understanding her role, acting upon it, seeking to actively achieve contentness and happiness within it. She doesn't generally seek to be a hoyden, to agitate and prod, thereby forcing a man into dominating her, she endeavors to "do what she was meant to do" ("do what you will")...to be a submissive woman, and to serve as deeply as she can. And this is one of the primary and essential beliefs of those who live by the philosophies of Gor.
And so, in conclusion, the reality of slavery among those living by Gorean ideals daily, is a conscious slavery. An accepted, worked toward, and desired state of servitude. It is no game in which a girl pushes buttons or sets her limits and ways. It is that she holds dear in her heart the desire to serve, help, respect, and glory in the domination of a Gorean man, and continually seeks to remember who and what she is, and her place in life, as a woman.
this slave wishes you well,
