Tuchuk Haruspex's Reading of the Runes
Thurisaz means "strong one" and represents barriers, senseless violence and negative or dark forces. In this reading the rune is reversed, which could mean barriers will or did not hold, that violence was possibly narrowly avoided, that dark sides were overcome personally or even that a goal was obtained without interference. The shape of the rune itself is reminiscent of aggression and power, such as brute force, so that, when reversed, it may mean channeled or harnessed might applied in a more positive manner. In this position, this would suggest meditating on painful and hard lessons from the past and use them for future knowledge, wisdom and guidance in making a present decision knowing work within yourself needs to be done.
What may be seen or learned from the center rune representing the present: Gebo means "gift" and may represent a variety of gifts on many levels. While mostly positive events, there are also times when gifts come with obligations and responsibilities in response needed. It may be symbolic of friendships, marriages, alliances, mergers, and other bonds between people and is a strong rune, hence the relationships represented are strong as well. In this position it may mean the beginning or deepening of a strong relationship, usually one with give and take. It can also mean someone is trying to become closer to you and, sometimes, this can herald that the price of this type of relationship will be a heavy emotional demand or even sacrifice.
What may be seen or learned from the right rune representing a possible future destination: In this reading , this rune came in a reversed position and this usually means some sort of sacrifice taken upon yourself, a path personally chosen on a single course of action, will not produce the expected or desired result or perhaps may even indicate some sort of personal loss. It may also symbolize a warning not to enter into conflicts or negotiations or any dealings requiring any type of concession needing to be made. In some instances even, this may suggest that somewhere there is someone dishonorably avoiding justice or the law. Turning up in this final position it strongly warns against making any kind of hasty decisions or actions and the need to take time to examine personal motives very carefully as matters of trust and confidence are at stake.
Tuchuk Haruspex's Reading of the Runes
Berkana represents the birch tree which is frequently symbolic of renewal, rebirth, birth, growth and fertility; one of joy and representative of family and household. It speaks of nurturing and rebirth, taking seeds to hold and nourish within yourself until it is time for their birth out into the world. In this sense it can mean a time for taking personal inventory and then using it to cleanse inwardly to herald a new awakening or rebirth of self from hidden transformations and growth.
What may be seen or learned from the center rune representing a deciding element of the present: Algiz is recognized by its shape looking like antlers of an elk. As such, it comes with meanings of the thrill of the hunt or chase and usually means victory or success in active works. The shape is also suggestive and symbolic as that of a protective outstretched hand which comes with meanings of protection, wardings, sanctuary and safety. It is not to mean sanctuary as in a place to run and hide, licking your wounds until their pain has passed, but rather in the meaning that it is a safe time and place to closely examine and look at the painful things in your life to use this for meditation and to reap valuable lessons so as to help make you stronger and wiser. Retreating for awhile is fine, but it is the beginning of turbulence that brings with it new opportunities and challenges.
What may be seen or learned from the top rune representing the forces working for you: Dagez means "daylight" and represents divine light, dawn or the initial spark of energy, as well as noon day or the climax of energy and light. All symbolic meanings of light represented in this rune are representative of major change and transformation, usually coming in fast and dramatic ways. It is interesting to note that this rune is the completion of the processes mentioned in the runes gebo and algiz. Together they represent a completion of a cycle. Individually it symbolizes brilliant flashes of change and awakening or sudden awareness or inspiration. This is the time to "seize the moment" since a major breakthrough is at hand.
What may be seen or learned from the bottom rune representing the forces working against you: Laguz is the most strongly feminine of runes, representing water in its primal force - deep and vast like the ocean that flows in tides and waves - and most often symbolic of deep sexuality. It also, as symbolic of deep water, can mean concealment, the unknown or major transitions such as along the lines of life and death. In this position it would be a warning to watch that you tend to be ruled by your emotions and intuition so keep that in mind as you use these things in a positive way instead. Remain flexible and fluid like the water as these major changes come your way.
What may be seen or learned from the right rune representing the critical element of the future that is at the core of the final outcome: Perth is the rune of chance and gambling, outcomes unknown, but the lure is for the wild abandon and of enjoyment. It makes sense then that this one rune is the symbolic representation of divination itself, trying to understand mysteries. The feeling from it in this position is one of rebirth, magic, prophecy and new beginnings. Looking to your past, your destiny will remain hidden until you are more fully and completely alive and open before it will reveal itself to you. Inner changes are, and need to, take place before destiny, even more so in true love, will make itself known to you. A secret gift awaits on the other side though and, spiritually, you are at a point where help will be offered by another person. Look for this person and hear what they have to say.
