Greetings kajira{Generic},

Again and again she has been told: "Gor is not about sex". A girl is wondering, if it is not about sex then what is it about? There is so much sex, in online interaction and offline too. Yet this girl has been told time and time again that "it is not about sex", but it seems to this one that sex colors every interaction. What’s the deal?

sincerely,
puzzled

Dear puzzled,

When a girl hears people say that being Gorean does not have to do with sex, she takes it to mean that hormones (to be polite) are not what drives people to call themselves Gorean. The easiest way to say this is to say it is not about sex. In other words (as this one understands it), being a Gorean does not have squat to do with slavegirls or sexual intercourse.

It may be that you are confusing the sexual dynamic you feel with the idea that being Gorean is not about engaging in sexual behavior. In this girl’s opinion, most human interaction does have to do with sex simply because that is how we are wired. We are at some level driven by species survival, and since the way the species survives is through procreation, we have a strong sexual drive. Does that mean Gor is "about" sex? Nope. Sex is not the primary "thing", but it sure is a part of it, as it would be for any lifestyle or philosophy that deals with living within a natural order. There’s one "intellectual" answer for you.

A less "smart", but probably equally true answer is: Put a mess of dominant males (who are likely dominant because they have more than their fair share of testosterone) around some reasonably pretty, fun, smart girls who are dying to be pleasing and ummm, what do you think will happen? Sure there will be some engaging intellectual discussion, but there will also be some sexual awareness too; it doesn’t matter if it is a tavern online or at the bus stop on Main Street. If all the girls disappeared in a puff of smoke, effectively removing the dynamic, would there still be Goreans? YUP.

A girl hopes she hasn’t confused you more with her brief answer on the differences between a philosophical perspective and an interpersonal dynamic.

Wishing you well!

Dear kajira,

This may seem so silly, and at the risk of bothering you, may this girl request a phonetic spelling/pronunication of the beautiful word.....kajira and kajirae.

Truly this one just feels it is so important to pronounce the title correctly as she is trying to impress her Master

Thank You so much,
saywhat

Dear saywhat,

This girl was unsure of how to answer your question, so she emailed the WebMaster of the Silk and Steel website to ask. Below is the reply she received: "Over the past five years or so, the correct pronunciation of the word "kajira" has repeatedly been brought up as a topic for discussion. To date, no "official" pronunciation of the word has been formally released by Mr.Norman.
However...
I have it on the best authority that Mr.Norman himself, when he says that word, pronounces it:
kuh-jeer-uh
or
kay-jeer-uh.

Both pronunciations, if said quickly enough, are fairly similar enough to be almost indistinguishable. Note that this does not mean that Mr.Norman will not change his mind about it in the future, or that either pronunciation can be assumed to be absolutely definitive."
Grateful thanks to the WebMaster for the answer to this question!
Good luck on making your impression!
