Dear Diary - the art of journalling for slaves
One of the more popular practices that kaylee has encountered among slaves is keeping a diary or journal. Whether it is something that a master desires in order to be aware of the innermost thoughts of the girl, or whether it is done simply for the benefits of reflecting on one’s life, it is something that seems to be popular in this lifestyle. In particlular, kaylee has noticed that it can be extremely helpful for long distance relationships and for those who are not used to speaking of very personal topics to others but find that it is required of them by their owners. Others enjoy the chance to mulkl over their thoughts before speaking to their owners, and a journal can provide the space to sort things out without the pressure of an owner waiting for an answer. It is not only those in the Master/slave lifestyle that benefit from keeping a diary. There are quite a few within our lifestyle who choose to document their jounrey through life. Keeping a journal can increase self-awareness and document patterns of behavior, which can later be used as a reference for modiifying that behavior if a decision is made to do so. It can be therapeutic for some people and help put words to those intangible emotions that are often experienced as we explore new ground. Keeping a diary can also keep one focussed on goals. Some keep fitness or diet journals or note their activities each day in their personal diaries so that their progress can be monitored. A diary can keep track of useful items such as commands, corrections, and master’s preferences. It can also keep friends and loved ones both near and far aware of what is going on in your life, should you choose to make an online diary accessible to them. Perhaps most notably, it can emphasize the lack of privacy that can accompany the status of being property and can help a slave feel transparent as their deepest feelings are available and uncensored to her owner. These positive outcomes can be reached through a variety of ways. For some, keeping a diary is the way to receive those benefits and enjoy the activity itself. kaylee has gone through times when she has chosen to not write in a journal format. Within the past year or so, she started to keep a diary again. For her, it is not so much a matter of learning lessons from her past as it is simply making a snapshot of where she is, the emotions of the moment suspended in time. The importance and value of keeping a diary vary with each person keeping a diary and with each individual for whom the diary is kept. Even then, the dynamic has the potential to subtly change when one is commanded to keep one versus when one is solely writing it for herself. kaylee has witnessed instances where diaries can become tools for the slave to attempt to be passive-aggressive. The motivation behind the words is as important as self-honesty itself. A diary can be a great tool for someone who has not previously stopped to examine the wonder of life ... a starting point for prompting someone to think of topics more deeply than what is on the surface. It is also a wonderful resource for someone just discovering submission and who suddenly needs a place to sort things out quietly as she becomes overwhelmed with new experiences and emotions. While none of the men kaylee has served has commanded her to journal on a long term basis, they have enjoyed reading the thoughts she has sent them, and they have enjoyed the fact that she is self-aware and introspective. There are some who have always written, whether as scribbles in their organizers, essays on their websites, or longhand in their leatherbound notebooks. For others, the idea of maintaining a written account of their journey is new and perhaps daunting. While nothing can replace good old fashioned face-to-face conversation (nor should it), a journal is something that the slave can do whenever she has the time and that the owner can read at his convenience. While not every slave is interested in keeping (or required to keep) a journal, kaylee hopes that the following resources may be of assistance to those who have an interest or are required to keep one. For those looking to start a diary, the first thing to consider is what format you or the other person feels most comfortable with. kaylee has kept journals in longhand and online and finds that she is more comfortable typing (and editing) online than when she is writing in a book. For computer users, one can use email, a word processing program, htmal or a website, or one of the community-based web diaries. One does not need to know HTML to use some of the community diaries such as diary-x or live journal. Some of these communities offer the option of having your diary private, public, or available to a select few. Others are hosted on your actual website, so you have control and can customize it as you wish, although this requires a bit more computer knowledge. A few online resources are lsited below. For those who are computer savvy enough to customize their pages, a link is provided to someone who specifically makes designs for journals and blogs that are oriented to this lifestyle . Some of the cons of journalling that kaylee has heard include: lack of time, lack of topics to write about, and the physical discomfort of writing. She will address each issue one at a time. Learning the journalling tools does not take much time. Many of the free journalling or blog tools nowadays are so user friendly, it is as easy as using a regular word processor. The majority of the diary sites that kaylee has used take little to no time at all to use. It is the equivalent of writing an email or opening and saving a document. You enter the journal title and move down to the body text and just start writing as if it were a word processing program. You have the option of previewing before publishing, and then you post the entry. The same would be true of keeping your journal entry solely on your computer if you were to open a document, type away, and save. It may very well be that you do not think you have time, but if you can carve out 15-20 minutes in your day, you might find that you look forward to your time spent journalling because it is time that you shut out the distractions of the outside world and simply collect your thoughts. As someone who is a diarist, particularly one who lives with her owner, it can be difficult for kaylee to find something to muse over in her journal at times. Not so much because she is writing for his entertainment, but because she has reflected on her day during talks with her owner. Many times, he is the primary person she talks withto sort out her thoughts and share things she found interesting. But there is something that she findsthatcompels her to write. It is necessary to her and even when she does not have access to pen and paper, she composes in her head. Even as someone who has to write, at times she too suffers from writer'’s block. Often her owner will discuss topics with her and she will use her diary to form her ideas about the topic. What she also found helpful is to use prompts to help evoke her muse, so to speak. Prompts can be anything that inspires thought, anything from a quote that carries a special meaning to an open ended question that prompts the creative juices. Ideally, the prompt can be enough to overcome any writer’s block, and is a stepping stone to allow the diarist to continue writing even after the specifics of the original prompt are addressed. There are some journal prompts specifically oriented to submissive women and slaves who journal. If you simply are not one who writes, or finds that verbal communication is something you are better suited for, then a diary may not be as much fun for you than it may be for someone who does love to write. Diary keeping is not for everyone, and most people can reach similar benefits through other venues. That being said, one can be commanded to do things they don't necessarily enjoy, and kaylee hopes that if this ever is the case, that you come back and browse through the listings offered. For the non-writer, the journal prompts can be especially useful and fun to do.
