A Tarn’s Eye View Tal! Welcome to the December, 2005 edition, which is Volume VIII Issue 6, and is the 90th issue of The Gorean Voice.
We have been truly pleased at the response to our reactivated email notification system! You can receive an email when each issue of The Gorean Voice is available for viewing, so if you have not already done so, please sign up! As always, your confidentiality is honored when you sign up. In this Issue Vanion is back with the Art department! He shows us what it is like to be on a Short Leash, how to give a proper Invitation, and how to make sure that one’s Broken Will is clearly understood. In the Booknotes department, Socrates concludes Savages of Gor. This book is a cliff-hanger, as Tarl does not end up where one might expect. Socrates makes customarily interesting comments on Tarl’s personal growth over the course of the series. In keeping with the far northern planetary geography theme of last month’s article on polar places, the Geography department takes us to The Hrimgar Mountains. The Reviews department, ever mindful that holiday gift-buying is now in full swing, pans this year’s War of the Worlds, just released to DVD, as a present to NOT get. One of the reasons to pass on that movie is its depiction of American manhood - it seems to illustrate what Norman talks about when he bemoans how men on this planet surrender their masculinity. In the Recipes department, holly{B} pulls out the stops with sweet treats. Pumpkin cheesecake, a sinful glaze for ham or turkey, and a fun way to indulge in peanut butter cookies, chocolate cran-raspberry cookies, white chocolate macadamia nut cookies, M&M cookies, and, just when you figure it can’t get any better than this: Almond Joy brownies. If you don’t read this, even if just to drool, then expect 3 ghosts to show up this Christmas ... A news flash from Mishel for the Crossword Puzzles department: “Warm Greetings to You! You will be so kind as to forgive me for not starting Guardsman this month. I am to be married on the thirteenth (Dec. 13th) and I am running around like a vulo who knows his time is up!! So for this month we will review Rogue of Gor and have a delightful jigsaw of Tasdron’s Tavern. I will be away in the month of January so there will be no puzzle for that month. I shall be returned by the month of Febuary and so we shall start Guardsman then. I wish everyone the most joyous of holidays and thank you all for your continued support of the puzzles. With love to all, Mishel” We all congratulate the groom and send best wishes to the bride! The Interviews department brings an incredible announcement: The Gorean Voice now appears in German as well as in English! The Gorean Voice will soon link to the German Edition. The must-read introductory interview with the man behind the German Edition, Phil Meier, includes links to the German Edition as well as to Phil’s other German-language Gorean pages. This is truly a coming of age for us. Join in the celebration as we now unite English-speaking and German-speaking fans of John Norman!
Watch for This Because there are always proposed contributions in progress, The Gorean Voice is preparing other really nice surprises for you as well.
Possibilities for Contributors There are many possibilities for contributors. If any of these departments appeals to you as a place where you might find a writing or other artistic niche, and of course, if you have ideas for a new feature and are willing to help, then read the guidelines for authors and let us know! Although some possibilities are more appropriate for one person to manage over time, many departments benefit from many contributors. Even if you are thinking about contributing only once, say, through Gorean humor or a book review or perhaps a poem, you should still contact me.
I wish you well, Hersius
