Catapult for attacking Trelleborg. This is a closer view of the rempart. The entrance was originally not open as now, but rather a narrow wooden tunnel. There are four such entrances, one to each the four points of the compass. Originally the outside of the rampart was covered by a rather sophisticated wooden stocade with catwalks and arrow slits, while the inside was covered by a simpler stockade. In the foreground is a reconstruction of a catapult placed as if it is meant for attacking Trelleborg.
