What’s in a Name?

by prism

Greetings Masters,
Greetings Mistresses,
Greetings slaves,

How does one know who they really are? How does one know that the lifestyle they have chosen is the one for them? We can call the lifestyle we choose by many names. We can put any label we want on it. But, is it really another lifestyle or is it the lifestyle we were taught? Do people place labels on themselves to feel important? And what gives a human being the right to treat another human being as if they were less? There comes a time that many women will ask themselves these questions when they find the alternative lifestyle. They look at themselves and ponder.

Why would any woman put her self in a position to be treated less then human, to be considered an animal? And, do all this by choice? Is it because they were abused as a child? Or low self esteem? Or possibly depressed?

Perhaps those things are factors for some women. Those are the women who have to really think about why they are in the lifestyle. Do they truly want to be in it? Or are they looking for an escape, or to have someone else sort out their problems?

Many times this one has put herself and friends under the microscope to try to determine why we have chosen to be who and what we are: sitting back and watching for many years, trying to figure out things; looking and searching for something that may never be; not settling but waiting for the right one. Some may look at that and roll their eyes.

A slave is a woman and a woman is a slave, to some degree. Some just choose not to label themselves as slaves. Wife, mother, girlfriend, and significant other: this one is sure there are many other names one could call themselves other than slave. Are they all not serving in some way? Are the all not trying to be pleasing to some degree? Are they all not bound to another?

William Shakespeare said it best: “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet.”

Until next time, warmest wishes and a Happy New Year!
