Are Women Given The Choice to Be Free or Slave?

A point/counterpoint by Cormerius and Nyre

The Point by Cormerius

Through out my travels in various gorean mediums such as telnet, web based, and irc based Gor, there is always one subject that is guaranteed to brings the emotions of women boiling to the surface.

That subject is"Do women really have a choice between being free or slave".

Given societies current status of requiring consensual relationships, the answer in the here and now is "yes they do". There is an absolute legal essence here that we are all aware of. But even in life here with societies constraints, how many times do we hear that "so and so" is in a terrible relationship with someone that is not good for her? In essence isn't that the same as being a slave at heart. The girl is not exercising her right to be free even though others around her would desire to see her lead a different life.

Given time with or without societies constraints on consensual relationships a girl will end up crossing paths with a male that will make her tremble with desire. It is her nature to become senseless with passion. Some may choose to deny those feelings when they arise and instead be labeled as "frigid bitches", others choose to acknowledge the emotions for what they truly are. Hence, they surrender to the man they have these feelings for and in the end the result is still the same.

Given the right man in the proper time and place the girl submits either privately but refuses to publicly acknowledge her emotions…or she submits publicly and the whole world knows her emotional state...in either case she submits.

In summary women "are" slaves to their hearts. The only choice they have is whether to display their slavery publicly, or perhaps maintain their slavery in silence

Counter-Point by Nyre

In the books, no.

In reality of the mix, absolutely. We are only human, afterall.

We are governed by a society that is conditioned to a point where a respect of sorts is common place for men to bestowe on women. Sexual haressment has become a catch phrase, and well used in many incidents. Same pay, different sex, is also debated strenously. That women are now reconized for achievement that was not allowed in yester year. To attempt to revert back as feminists would surely hollar at, is at best difficult.

We claim a philosophy that gives no choices yet it is contridiction unto itself. That Gor offers no choice, to be a woman is to risk a collar at any given time. It is untrue. A woman has the option to say no. To state, I can`t.

We own our options, free, slave alike.

Yes I can kneel, and give beyond my own needs.

Yes, I am a free woman, and I too stand here to please my mate, and peers of my home.

A Choice.

The books of Norman are a great reference, and many tales of lessons in which we base our foundation on are present. However, we can not live in pages, we can only live to the abilty we strive towards a reality. The attempt to go beyond what was expected of us.

We are human, we can not live forever, there is no Utopia, or serum that is offered to the general population for consumption. As we strive to understand the base of that which we choose, it becomes admissible through learning, patience, and devotion. With facts, and not amusing stories, the correct answer can be fully made.

Consent.

It is why we frown on collars that go from neck to neck in hours, and why we turn our back on those that would abuse that which we believe in. We must attain this foundation laid, as choice. To label it under general blanket statements is frankly a disserve to what we achieve. One man or woman can not be a community with out many. But a community can be, without the one.
