Free Women vs. Realism

By Kittiara

Tal and greetings all,

Imagine, if you will, a group of people on the planet Gor. Yet again there has been a Voyage of Acquisition and these people have somehow got their hands on the most peculiar equipment. It must have fallen from the back of the ship, so to say. Before the Priest Kings strike them down they try getting this equipment to work, curiosity getting the best of them. We would recognise it as a battery operated portable TV, batteries included, for once. Miracle of miracles they soon receive a signal from that planet known as Earth, where the barbarians are rumoured to come from. However, due to atmospheric disturbances they can only receive two television series. The first is reruns from Ally McBeal.

Stunned, our group of Goreans learns that on Earth, people get these strange illusions of dancing babies and such. People tend to burst out randomly into dodgy songs, Earth people have hidden rooms behind the bathrooms, and all women are very very skinny.

The second series they receive happens to be reruns of some very ancient soap opera.

I take it you get my meaning here. I am not trying to make fun of Gor, our lifestyle, nor trying to write a comedy. What I am aiming at, is to show you the books we have based our lifestyle on, be it online or real life, are on certain topics rather shady. The books say a lot, but do not say a lot, as well.

A topic John Norman did not get into very deeply is Free Women. Most women we learn of in the books tend to be rather dim, rather mean, they play political games and, pardon me please for raising this topic, are said to be rather cold in bed.

This month I wish to analyse this picture a little further.

The Free Women of Gor are, in a way, bound by more laws and rules than a slave.

They must wear long robes in most parts of Gor, not show a lot of flesh, yes even in their own homes they are not permitted certain liberties. If they show any hints whatsoever of what is called slave like behaviour they may find themselves collared quickly.

And yet… a Free Woman must be respectful… if she does not submit properly to her FC she may be sent back. Too, she can be punished much as a slave and she may be collared if she behaves unsatisfactory. She has even been raised in obedience, the love dances of her City and so forth.

Let us now look realistically at the emotional impact this would have on a woman. Obedience, to a FC, would stir emotions and feelings within her, as would a punishment, as would love. But she must not show these emotions too much for fear of steel…this, too, goes for the bedroom. Is it any wonder then that Free Women are seen as cold and frustrated?

The solution is simple, one might say; just collar her. Yet only a minor percentage of women on Gor is actually enslaved, and I would find it rather hard to believe that all Free Women actually are like those the books describes, or Gor would be a rather miserable place to be indeed. This would lead to the conclusion that we miss out on a lot of information.

Another aspect we often fail to include in our online and RL Gorean lifestyle is that women from our own planet are different, have been raised different, and frankly as a Free Woman have a lot to offer. Many of us would be quite happy to obey our FC, support his slaves, bring honour to his name and joy in the relationship. She would stand by her mans side as a woman should, and offer the same love. Indeed, a Free Woman may not do certain things and give a man certain things as a slave can, indeed she will not serve all, but she brings with her other things that may please a man.

I often hear it said that Free Women online know not their place and are hard to deal with. Maybe this is so in certain cases, but many of us know their place well.

Between the statistics in the books, the lack of information, and some common logic knowing us women from Earth, I would say we may yet surprise men in being able to be warm and supportive, dedicated yet not like a slave.

And cold in the bedroom? Somehow I have a hard time believing all Free Women on Gor would be as such. Knowing Gorean Men, they would simply not put up with that. I assume there is a lot more going on than we know…between Free Men and Free Women.

And with that rather long pondering, I leave you for this month with my well wishes.
