Rarius Praetendus (The False Warrior)

The tattered beggar sleeps alone
behind the street of brands,
scraping through the alley heaps
blackened, raptured hands.

Scavenged trinkets tossed to dust,
his only cherished prize.
In threadbare rags he shakes His fist,
an anguished cry his life.

Warriors strong bear sword and shield,
thrill Ar their tales of gold.
From shadow's hide the beggar mocks,
his pride for copper sold.

Smugly he deceives himself;
"To blame my need is theirs.
My proof, my strength is theft and dark
my plot to lay the snare".

A tunic stole of scarlet caste
conceals his final shame.
This beggar's trap in life was set
by him that wears his name.

From sky blue heights, great tarns in flight,
they see what lives below.
A lesser man cannot be great,
small deeds his nature show.

Strummer
of the caste of Entertainers

You wonder through life at your own pace
.....
Do you linger over a flower's beauty?
As it's petals slowly unfold under the warmth of the sun
.....
Do you slow down and watch in wonder
As a child struggles up to take his first steps
.....
Do your steps lead you to a tree stump?
On a deserted beach
.....
Do you sit down and spend hours
Lost in the movements of the waves dying on the shores
.....
Do you grow sleepy and content?
As the sun makes once more its journey beyond the horizon
.....
Do your feet take you to a meadow?
On a cloudy day, when the sun hides behind clouds
.....
Do you lay down on the wet grass and earth?
With the sky above you
.....
Do you breathe in nature's perfume?
The special blend of then earth's scent
.....
Do you walk outside when it rains?
Lifting your face to feel tiny kisses of raindrops
.....
Do you pause, your lips curved with a smile
When hand in hand a happy couple passes by
.....
Do you linger over a meal?
Allowing each morsel to melt in your mouth
.....
Do you savor the flavors?
Distinguishing each spice as it teases your senses
.....
Do you watch your lover as they sleep?
Studying the lines of their faces so innocent in sleep
.....
Do you lean closer and with a light touch
Trace their features remembering what makes your love so strong
.....
Do you wrap your arms around yourself?
Shivering with the sheer pleasure
Of being alive.
.....
You live life at your own pace
But you can only savor life
At a leisure pace...
.....

Once long ago
You said them easily
Their meanings misunderstood
It was easy back then
You did not know then
What you know now
No one had ever told you
That these words were sacred

Today the words stay unspoken
They claw at you from inside
Raking your heart
Leaving painful streaks
These words can tear you apart
From the inside
Yet once set free
They can not be recalled

Words you use to casually toss around
How could you have known?
That these words have no meaning
Unless they are born in the heart
Words like these are spoken so easily
You spoke them so carelessly
How many did you hurt?
How many cried out in pain

When the truth of it came out
Once the emptiness of the words
Was made painfully clear
How many cried out in pain
How many times have you carelessly said?
I love you.

In a time long forgotten
A lover once spoke these words
For the first time
Once upon a time
There was a love so strong
So powerful
That a heart overflowed
Rose up to a lover's mouth
And spilled forth in a rush of emotion
These words were born "I love you"
Once love broke a barrier
And gave birth to words

Today the words stay unspoken
Today you are the one
Crying out with pain
Today you know the meaning
Before these words
Can cross you lips again
You heart will have to overflow

The next time you say
I love you
You know it will be true.

"The Tarnsman"

The tarnsman hurls his mount aloft
And feels his spirit soar
The wind roars past, both hard and soft
It thrills him to the core

Gor falls away beneath his feet
He feels alive and free
He spins and barely keeps his seat
Dives almost to the sea

Rising, laughing, man and bird
Exhilaration reigns
Knows sights unseen and sounds unheard
Existence without chains

He sits astride his winged steed
Perceives its brute, fierce love
Not even the warrior's creed
Can match this life above

Majestic views he shares with none
Save his brothers of the air
Who fly with him into the sun
Who have the strength to dare

"Ta-Sardar Gor!" the warrior cries
Words catching with his breath
He cares not if he lives or dies
Life seems the same as death

But when the beast begins to tire
It is time to descend
He knows its wings must feel afire
Its life he must defend

So they alight, he grooms his tarn
Seeks shelter for the night
Paga, slave girls, sweet and warm
Anticipating morning light

For the pleasures he can find on land
Hold allure for him no more
He dreams of sky, immense and grand
Though asleep he longs to soar

Before the dawn he springs awake
Tarn eagerly awaits
Together they the ground forsake
And strive for heaven's gates

she looks up for a brief moment
trying to hide her shivering body and curious eyes
behind the comforting well-known kneel
feeling her belly tremble by the sight that meets her
and fear overwhelms her without notice
scared and unworthy of being here
here
in the same room as Goreans
breathing in the same air as them
being allowed to be in their presense

she senses the strength that fills the room
inhaling the scent of Gor for the first time
Gor
she lets the word lay on her tongue
almost able to taste it
strange unknown sensations run through her
a mixture of desire, fear and uneasiness
and something more
which she cannot seem to define or name

she casts her eyes down again
wondering silently if she can do this
if she can be as her beautiful and graceful sisters
be pleasing
be slave

she inhales deeply as she watches the room
struggling against the doubt
primitive craving filling her venes little by little
she smiles to herself realising that she will learn
this is what she desires - what she has always desired
what she has searched for
what she craves for
it is her.

In the distance thunder rolls
Caught outside you startle
Raising your head you watch
As dark clouds gather close

In the bright flash of a lightning bolt
You freeze transfixed
Fears courses through your veins
You swallow convulsively

Closer now thunder roars
Closing the gaps between you
Eyes darting left to right
You seek a shelter

With a mighty flash
The heavens are torn open
And water rushes to the earth
An unbidden scream leaves your lips

You start to run, heedless of destination
A frightened animal seeking refuge
You run straight ahead
Chased by lightning

As clothes stick to your body
Water slicks down your back
Mingling with the sweat of fear
You can not hear the thunder over the beat of your heart

Somewhere behind you a tree is struck
The crash of it lost to your earring
Branches snag your clothes and
Whip about your arms and legs

Somewhere from the corner of a frightened eye
You spy a light glowing steadily in the darkness
A whimper of hope escapes
As you turn towards it increasing your speed

Stumbling and running you run towards salvation
Hands uselessly covering your ears
As the thunder roars from your heart
Incoherent words shadowed by fear spill from numb lips

The light grows nearer and nearer
Your heart almost ceases to beat
As you come to a threshold
Panting and whimpering you crawl up the steps

You claw at the door mewing in fear
The door swings open
You tumble inside safe at last
The door slams shut behind you

Once again you startle
Casting fearful glances around
Slowly you sink to your knees
Unable to even moan your helplessness

Blood drains from your face
As your lips move without sound
To escape a storm
You ran to the nearest shelter

Inside waiting calmly
Something waited
As you were herded towards it
Face to face finally
Face to face with your fears
Face to face with yourself
Face to face.

As you walk the tender path of life
Pluck not what you will from the fields
Gather not blossoms of flowers in your hands

As you travel down the road of life
Collect not friends and family to yourself
Save not momentoes and memories of you

Rather
Plant the seed that will grow
Water the flowers so they'll bloom
Expand your family and friends
Distribute your momentos
Share your memories

Why is that you ask?

When you reach the end of the road
All that you have gathered to you will die with you
All you have left will prosper and grow
In this you will be remembered
In this you will never die

Share of yourself
So part of you will always live on.

A lie
A little white lie
Told with a little smile
A piece of self that dies
Unnoticed unmissed

Two lies
Two simple lies
Told with care
Another piece torn
Unnoticed unmissed

5 lies
Five lies
Five, each a simple lie
Told without thought
The tear grows
Still unnoticed

Lies
Piece by piece they tear your flesh
Little by little eating yourself
A process so slow it's unnoticed
A progress so slow it's not missed

Lies
Like flies one does no harm
But a swarm of flies can overwhelm
One day you turn around
And you are caught in a swarm of lies
A field so thick
You can't see to the other side
And you stand-alone... alone with a swarm of lies

One little white lie
Two little white lies
5 little white lies
How many lies does it take to make a swarm?

Won't you show me the way?
Lead me down the path
Won't you tell me how?
I can get to your heart
I promise
I won't go any further then your heart

Wont' you draw me a map
Tell me the name of the road
The one that ends
Right at your heart
I promise
I won't go any further then your heart

I may stop along the way
To catch my breath
And pluck a flower
Fix a hole or admire the view
I promise
I won't go any further then your heart

Please show me the road
The one that leads to your heart
I'm sure it's long and arduous
But I'm ready to make the trip
And I promise
I won't go any further then your heart.
